<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cPartiendo de una inspiraci\u00f3n personal a ra\u00edz de diferentes visitas a Oaxaca y acercamientos a la cultura zapoteca, y tomando como referencia el escrito de Bernd Fahmel Beyer (Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico, Instituto de Investigaciones Antropol\u00f3gicas) llamado El Coraz\u00f3n del Monte<\/i>, desarroll\u00e9 de manera simb\u00f3lica y simplificada una re-interpretaci\u00f3n de glifos y elementos, que intuitivamente surgieron como una abstracci\u00f3n del sentir que me provoca tan rica cultura del M\u00e9xico antiguo. La cual ha sabido sobrevivir al tiempo y a las diferentes irrupciones hist\u00f3ricas a\u00fan presentes.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n “Drawing on personal inspiration from various visits to Oaxaca and introductions to the Zapotec culture, and referencing a text by Bernd Fahmel Beyer (National Autonomous University of Mexico, Institute of Anthropological Research) called El Coraz\u00f3n del Monte <\/i>[The Heart of the Mountain], I symbiotically developed a simplification and reinterpretation of glyphs and elements, which intuitively emerged as an abstraction of the feeling provoked in me by this rich culture of ancient Mexico which has managed to survive through time and many historical incursions still present today.”<\/p>\n <\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cEl Cometa cuenta la historia de la llegada de un mensajero de Dios, Gosiu \u2014el rel\u00e1mpago, el trueno, el rugido del jaguar\u2014 que en \u00faltima instancia representa la resistencia y la supervivencia, los cambios y las prohibiciones. Uno de sus atributos es controlar el clima, por lo que est\u00e1 conectado con todo lo dem\u00e1s: cultivos, sal, fuego, guerra y muerte. (Con respecto a esto \u00faltimo, se cre\u00eda que entre los muertos, distinguidos jefes guerreros y v\u00edctimas de sacrificios se unieron a la familia de los hermanos rel\u00e1mpago).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Mi forma de narrar o representar lo anterior es a trav\u00e9s de la abstracci\u00f3n intuitiva; s\u00edmbolos que intentan dar forma a las influencias o sensaciones que me ha provocado mi introducci\u00f3n a esta cultura, cultura fundamental no s\u00f3lo para los oaxaque\u00f1os y mexicanos en general, sino para todo el g\u00e9nero humano.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Se llama representamen (signos) porque se basa en mi concepci\u00f3n dualista de lo prehisp\u00e1nico y mi condici\u00f3n de ser humano viviendo en el 2021 (con todas mis influencias adquiridas y limitaciones de mi tiempo) y tratando de interpretar, en el mismo manera que lo har\u00eda un antrop\u00f3logo, la informaci\u00f3n que tenemos hoy.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Creo en el principio de que la forma principal de representar o interpretar un signo es desentra\u00f1ar su significado. <\/span>Propongo una escultura que no es la mera imagen de una cosa, historia o leyenda, ni la reproducci\u00f3n sensorial de un objeto, sino que busca ocupar el lugar de la cosa en nuestra mente.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThe Comet<\/i> tells the story of the arrival of a messenger of God, Gosiu\u2014the lightning bolt, the thunder, the roar of the jaguar\u2014who ultimately represents resistance and survival, changes and prohibitions. One of his attributes is controlling the weather, and hence he is connected to everything else: crops, salt, fire, war, and death. (Regarding the latter, it was believed that among the dead, distinguished warrior chiefs and sacrificial victims joined the family of the lightning brothers.)<\/p>\n My way of narrating or representing the aforementioned is through intuitive abstraction; symbols that try to give form to the influences or sensations that have been provoked in me by my introduction to this culture, a culture fundamental not only to Oaxacans and Mexicans in general, but to the whole human race.<\/p>\n It is called representamen <\/i>(signs) because it is based on my dualistic conception of the pre-Hispanic and my condition of being a human being living in 2021 (with all my acquired influences and limitations of my time) and trying to interpret, in the same way that an anthropologist would, the information we have today. <\/span><\/p>\n I believe in the principle that the main way to represent or interpret a sign is to unravel its meaning. I propose a sculpture that isn\u2019t the mere image of a thing, story, or legend, nor a sensorial reproduction of an object, but seeks to take the place of the thing in our mind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cNo busca ser definida por el autor, busca m\u00e1s bien las diferentes interpretaciones partiendo de lo que el autor propone. Es decir, que funcione como un instrumento que ponga un universo de ideas al alcance de los int\u00e9rpretes, y hacer posible que pensemos tambi\u00e9n lo que no vemos ni tocamos, o ni siquiera nos imaginamos. Un espiral, bajo relieve crea profundidad, es el movimiento del cosmos, es inclusive, una forma abstracta de una vagina, el centro de donde parte todo.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt doesn\u2019t seek to be defined by the author, but rather seeks different interpretations based on what the author proposes. That is, to function as an instrument which places a universe of ideas within reach of its interpreters, and makes it possible for us to also think about what we don\u2019t see or touch, or even imagine.
