El origen de esta casa data a inicios de 1800. Una historia que inicia en la \u00e9poca del orden colonial, y en pleno 2020, da un giro tras la apertura de sus puertas como hotel: Pug Seal Zapoteco<\/i> Un lienzo arquitect\u00f3nico sobre un edificio que respira.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Cuando Juan Pelaez de Berrio arrib\u00f3 al valle de Oaxaca en 1829, se encontr\u00f3 con un poblado espa\u00f1ol sin autoridad y sin planeaci\u00f3n colonial. Ten\u00eda \u00f3rdenes directas de enriquecer el asentamiento espa\u00f1ol del valle, aquel entonces nombrado <\/span>Villa de Antequera, <\/span><\/i>o, Valle de Antequera.<\/span> Encomend\u00f3 a Alonso Garc\u00eda Bravo como alarife (maestro de obra) para iniciar el trazado urbano del valle de Oaxaca, tomando como punto de fuga el lugar que hoy ocupa el z\u00f3calo. Se encarg\u00f3 de la orientaci\u00f3n de edificios e iglesias, para recibir luz directa del sol durante todo el a\u00f1o. Paralelamente el obispo en turno, Francisco L\u00f3pez Z\u00e1rate encontr\u00f3 grandes yacimientos de cantera verde que fueron utilizados para edificar casas e iglesias. Es el origen de la <\/span>cantera verde de Oaxaca<\/span><\/i>, caracter\u00edstico de esta poblaci\u00f3n. Juan Pel\u00e1ez de Barrio fue el primer alcalde de Oaxaca responsable de asignar propiedades para las ochenta familias espa\u00f1olas, las primeras \u00f3rdenes religiosas y los principales edificios civiles, or\u00edgenes de \u00e9sta casa.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n ***<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n La composici\u00f3n arquitect\u00f3nica de \u00e9ste edificio responde a una herencia mediterr\u00e1nea, espa\u00f1oles de 1800 implementando sus conocimientos en una zona geogr\u00e1fica desconocida<\/span>. Una fontana en el patio principal es abrazada por columnas cl\u00e1sicas. Mientras que sus cimientos de cantera verde, ladrillo rojo y vigas de madera, son vestigios de la \u00e9poca en que se fund\u00f3 la <\/span>Villa de Antequera.<\/span><\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Pug Seal no construye edificios nuevos, da vida nueva a propiedades con historia. Para adaptar este edificio a hotel, PASSUS Atelier, en colaboraci\u00f3n con Pug Seal, comenzaron por desnudar la casa. Quitando capa por capa la pintura de sus muros, se fueron revelando las vidas anteriores de ella, sus edades, su funciones y sus anteriores habitantes. Las texturas de pintura dentro de las habitaciones, son resultado de la exploraci\u00f3n de sus vidas pasadas. <\/span>La se\u00f1ora Carmen Garc\u00eda muri\u00f3 el 8 de enero de Nov de 1887.<\/span><\/i> \u00bfHabr\u00e1 m\u00e1s criptas entre sus muros? Dejar expuesta la cripta, es brindar homenaje a sus anteriores vidas. Al igual que la exposici\u00f3n de sus acabados originales como: vigas de madera, ladrillos rojos, o bien, las <\/span>instalaciones aparentes<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n La integraci\u00f3n del mural en <\/span>fresco<\/span><\/i> de Rafael Uriegas se sincroniz\u00f3 durante la restauraci\u00f3n de la casa, al aplicar la primera capa de yeso sobre un muro. Rafael, daba una significaci\u00f3n nueva a los muros con relieves, formas, texturas, tonalidades y simbolog\u00edas producidas con pigmentos entre el yeso. Plasmando valores, mitos y leyendas del imaginario zapoteca. El <\/span>fresco<\/span><\/i> fue envolviendo la casa, haciendo de ella un lienzo arquitect\u00f3nico. En las escaleras principales, una intervenci\u00f3n de Sabino Guisu: <\/span>Cocijo<\/span><\/i>, deidad relacionada al trueno, lluvia, por tanto a las cosechas y fertilidad. Partido a la mitad por un rayo, descansa a la mitad de las escaleras principales. Placas de lat\u00f3n incrustadas por los muros, representan la visi\u00f3n zapoteca de Manuel Lozano.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n El mobiliario se compone por piezas modernas, contempor\u00e1neas y con formas geom\u00e9tricas, genera contraste con las formas asim\u00e9tricas del mural. Son los \u201cnuevos\u201d elementos de la propiedad. Acabados met\u00e1licos en tonos bronce firmes entre los muros. Puertas y ventanas con acabados mediterr\u00e1neos riman con las columnas y cortinas de sus patios. El m\u00e1rmol es parte esencial de la casa, se manifiesta en sus macetas, mesas y ba\u00f1os<\/span>;<\/span> produciendo una atm\u00f3sfera de cueva y hogar. El dise\u00f1o de iluminaci\u00f3n en led en habitaciones y pasillos, forman parte de los elementos que dan vida nueva a la propiedad.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Recorrer la casa es recorrer sus vidas pasadas, es volverse parte de lienzo arquitect\u00f3nico. An architectural canvas on a building that breathes.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n When Juan Pel\u00e1ez de Berrio arrived in the Oaxaca Valley in 1829, he found a Spanish settlement with no authority and no colonial planning. He had direct orders to enrich the Spanish settlement of the valley, then called Villa de Antequera,<\/i> or Antequera Valley. He commissioned Alonso Garc\u00eda Bravo as alarife<\/i> (master builder) to initiate urban planning in the Oaxaca Valley, using as a vanishing point the place now occupied by the z\u00f3calo<\/i>, or main square. He was in charge of orienting buildings and churches to receive direct sunlight throughout the year. Meanwhile, the bishop at the time, Francisco L\u00f3pez Z\u00e1rate, found large deposits of green cantera<\/i> stone that were used to build houses and churches. This is the origin of the green cantera of Oaxaca, characteristic of the city. Juan Pel\u00e1ez de Berrio was the first mayor of Oaxaca, responsible for assigning properties to eighty Spanish families, the first religious orders, and the main civil buildings\u2014the origins of this house.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n The architectural composition of this building is a response to the Mediterranean heritage of Spaniards from 1800 implementing their knowledge in an unknown geographical area. A fountain in the main courtyard is embraced by classical columns, while its foundations of green cantera, red brick, and wooden beams, are vestiges of the time when the Villa de Antequera<\/i> was founded.<\/p>\n Pug Seal does not construct new buildings, it gives more color and life to properties with history. To adapt this building into a hotel, PASSUS\/atelier, in collaboration with Pug Seal, began by stripping the house bare. By lifting paint from its walls layer by layer, they revealed its past; its different ages, functions, and previous inhabitants. Mrs. Carmen Garc\u00eda died on January 8, 1887<\/i>. Could there be more crypts within its walls? To expose the crypt is to pay homage to all these lives, as well as exposing its original finishes such as wooden beams, red bricks, and exposed layers of paint.<\/p>\n The integration of the fresco mural by Rafael Uriegas was synchronized with the restoration of the house when the first layer of plaster was applied to the wall. Rafael gave new meaning to the walls through relief, shapes, textures, tonalities, and symbology produced by pigments in the plaster. Inspired by the values, myths, and legends of the Zapotec imaginary, the fresco enveloped the house, turning it into an architectural canvas.<\/p>\n Split in half by lightning, Cocijo rests in the middle of the main stairway, a deity related to thunder and rain, and therefore to crops and fertility. This is an intervention by the artist Sabino Guisu. The brass plates embedded in the walls are Representamen Numinico<\/i>, Manuel Lozano’s Zapotec vision.<\/p>\n The furnishings are composed of modern, contemporary pieces with geometric shapes, contrasting with the asymmetrical shapes of the mural. They are the “new” elements of the property: Metallic finishes in bold bronze tones within the walls; apparent installations<\/i>; doors and windows with Mediterranean finishes harmonizing with the columns and curtains of its patios. Marble is an essential part of the house, manifested in its pots, tables, and bathrooms, producing a cave-like, homey atmosphere. The design of the LED lighting in the rooms and hallways is another one of the elements that give new life to the property.<\/p>\n To walk through the house is to walk through its past lives, to become part of the architectural canvas; a narrative that is always new to those who contemplate it.<\/p>\n Welcome to Pug Seal. They appeal to the union of art and architecture as an essential substrate for the development of their projects. Their practice is based on the return of architecture to art, thus commemorating the craft of artisans who are an indispensable part of developing designs. This ethos is born from academic experience, in which the study of art history, architecture, urbanism, photography, and industrial design define their workshop\u2019s work ethic.<\/p>\n As representatives of design and architecture, they are responsible for an aesthetic that transcends as a symbol of quality of life. The practice of art and architecture reveals the significance of knowing how to age.<\/p>\n PASSUS\/atelier was created by Chlo\u00eb Morichau Beauchant, an architect who graduated with honors from the National School of Architecture in Paris, and Aldo Sazen, an art historian who graduated from the University of Barcelona and completed a master’s degree in the history of photography at the National School of Photography in Arles, France.
