Orfeo Quagliata

Artista, diseñador industrial y creador de su marca homónima. Proviene de familia con tradición artística conformada por joyeros, arquitectos y escultores, de ahí que involucrarse en el proceso creativo-artesanal fue una consecuencia natural de su entorno. El legado de cristal de Orfeo, junto con la escuela de sus padres y sus abuelos, lo han convertido en alquimista del vidrio, dominando la fragilidad del más antiguo material translúcido para dotarlo de significado.

Su padre es el afamado artista de vidrio Narciso Quaglita, figura fundamental del “American Studio Glass Movement”. De él, Orfeo aprendió desde niño a trabajar el vidrio y, antes de matricularse en la universidad, ya había sido aprendiz del artista catalán José Fernández Castrillo con quien se instruyó en las técnicas de trabajo de vidrio en frío.

Coming from a family of jewelers, architects, and sculptors with an artistic tradition, getting involved in the creative-artisanal process was a natural consequence of his environment. Orfeo’s glass heritage, along with training by his parents and grandparents, have made him an alchemist of glass, who masters the fragility of the oldest translucent material to endow it with meaning.

His father is the famed glass artist Narcissus Quagliata, a fundamental figure of the American Studio Glass Movement. Orfeo learned to work with glass as a child thanks to his father. Before entering university, he was an apprentice of the Catalan artist José Fernández Castrillo, who instructed him in the techniques of coldworking glass.
